Founded by Motoko Shibata, with years of experience in portfolio management and financial modeling in the global real estate investment industry, Qlarity helps clients enhance their in-house analytical and reporting capabilities.

Background

Motoko has over 20 years of hands-on experience on the analytics and reporting side of real estate acquisitions, dispositions, development, asset management and financing. Prior to the founding of Qlarity in 2021, she worked for several well-known organisations across the globe from New York City (Cohen & Steers), London (Rockspring Property Investment Managers - currently Patrizia), Tokyo (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, and AIG) to Helsinki (Sponda Real Estate, a Blackstone's portfolio company).

 

Motoko attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. She later earned her MBA from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Additionally, Motoko is bilingual and speaks both English and Japanese.

Expertise

During her time at these companies, Motoko specialized in the analytics of real estate investments and portfolio management as well as performance measurements, helping investment managers and asset managers to make financially sensible decisions. Her recent experience includes successfully setting up a portfolio management team at a Blackstone portfolio company, building complex cash flow and valuation models for the company's Euro 3 billion portfolio as well as training the team.

 

In addition to her quantitative skills, Motoko has extensive experience working with cross-functional teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across leasing, development, asset management, finance, and investment departments. Her ability to manage investor communications has ensured that investors remain well-informed through regular updates and comprehensive reports, fostering strong partner relationships. Her capacity to handle ad-hoc requests and provide timely responses to investor queries highlights her dedication and responsiveness, which have been key to her success in managing complex investment portfolios and maintaining investor confidence.

Motoko is also known for her proactive approach to enhancing internal and external reporting processes. She has automated numerous analytics and reporting tools using advanced Excel techniques, including VBA, significantly improving efficiency and accuracy in data processing and report preparation.
